1. You may register trademarks and copyrights at two levels, the state level and the federal level. It is highly advisable for any business to register with both the state and feds. In Illinois, you would file with the Illinois Secretary of State. The cost to register a trademark is $10 I believe. The cost to register a federal trademark is a little over $300. You should have an attorney do this for you, however, because you need to do complex searches before you can validly register a trademark at either level. Also, the trademark will be practically useless if it is not register correctly, i.e. under the correct class and with the correct description.
