Can a Credit Card Company do This?
Can a credit card company sign you up for a credit card without your knowledge or consent?

Hello Joshua,
This is not what happened in my case. I called the company to ask them why they signed me up for their card and they said “because you shop with us we thought you would want a card of ours too”. They never said I checked a box or anything like that, in fact I am VERY sure I didn’t because I haven’t shopped there for a while. The guy on the phone with the credit company was very nice and he went on to say that their had been other complaints too. I think what they are doing is very sneaky and I would like to investigate this more. Is there a lawyer out there that would like to help me with this?
Thank you,
Rhonda

No absolutely not. However, you may have given “consent” unknowingly. Sometimes when people fill out applications for other services you unknowingly sign a line, or check a box, or fail to check a box, which indicates you wish to receive a credit card. This happens often when someones signs up for something online and fails to uncheck a box, which was already checked by default, requesting a credit card. It’s a dirty trick that some companies use. That’s why you should always make sure you look over applications and contracts closely to avoid agreeing or consenting to unwanted services. That said, if you have signed up for a credit card by mistake and this has had detrimental effects to your credit, you should consult an attorney to straighten things out.
