Deep in Debt from Business: Should We File Bankruptcy?

My husband owes back taxes and we talked to a tax attorney. He said to have me file seperately, and also we could probably work out an arrangement with the IRS.

My husband had a construction business and we lost everything. We are now renting. He owes 550 dollars a month to creditors. Our credit is horrible. We have 3 kids in college they are paying their way.

I dont know what to do first. We owe for back taxes from the company and we are paying $550 a month for loans he took out.

Is it possible to file for bankruptcy? I need advice. He has a steady job and I am working. We both are working 2 jobs just to stay afloat. I need help.

Tax Question: Independent Contractor with 1099

My fiance is a 1099 contractor. We need help figuring out what he actually owes each month as his ex never took him back to court after he changed positions. Right now I am taking his gross pay and subtracting all expenses, then subtracting taxes and then taking 20% of that.

His current pay for the year is about 55,000 but with expenses its $34000. I am worried that once we get to court there is going to be problem or that we did something wrong since this is not cookie cutter like someone who is an actual employee. PLEASE HELP

In Evanston, Illnois, the landlord tenant ordinance says that you have to give at least 48 hours notice to enter the apartment. If I want to show the apartment and the tenant agrees, can I do it in less than 48 hours without getting into trouble?

On an ER visit, the MD ordered a CT scan for daughter and the cost was $3000.

They did not provide us with informed consent or explain why they wouldn’t do other diagnostics or give us a choice.

How can we fight this charge for unnecssary procedure?

Real Estate Question: Case Against Builder?

We bought a condo in a three flat downtown in the East Village area and to our dismay, the builder did not do a good job at building the place.

We have had many issues for a building that is only 7 years old. We have been told that we might have a good case against the builder who won’t help us with all of these latent defects. Is this true?

Can We Break This Lease?

I have a few questions about breaking a lease.

We are moving back to my mom’s house and would like to break the lease. On the lease it does say that if we were to break the lease we would have to pay for the whole year.

1) we didnt have that kind of money which is why we are moving with my mom.

2) they are close family friends. There are things that were suppose to be fixed when we moved in and are still to this date not fixed. The front window is broken, there is a bit of a bug issue, a problem with the electric where our bill is about $600.

We had asked them to get electrican and they got a friend to check it out. There is a pool outside as well as the washer and dryer, we live on the bottom level. We are never home to where electric would be that much. Well that is some of the details, Hope to hear from someone soon,
